Gatewood is said to be back in career best form ahead of the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes at Warwick Farm Racecourse tomorrow March 9, 2013.
The Galileo entire will be having his second race start for new trainer Chris Waller when he takes his place in the $350,000 race.
Managing owner Terry Henderson told of the progress Gatewood has made since his sixth placing in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes at Warwick Farm last month.
“Gatewood is the sleeper,” Henderson said.
“He is probably a better bet than Manighar.”
“His work on Tuesday, Chris described as his best since he’s been with him.”
Waller has a total of six horses in the 2013 Chipping Norton Stakes, and Henderson feels that Gatewood is one of his best chances.
“I’m getting good vibes,” he said.
“Chris is in the situation where he’s got six horses in the race so it’s hard for him to make judgments between his horses.
“But I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gatewood run into the money.”
Gatewood has won five of his 11 race starts and has earned close to $300,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
He was set towards the $6 million Melbourne Cup last spring, however, failed to make the field despite winning the Group 3 Geelong Cup.
Gatewood had a last ditched attempt to make the field by running in the Group 3 Lexus Stakes, however finished sixth behind Kelinni.
