It’s A Dundeel, making his first appearance for the Autumn, finished second after being chased down by a strong finishing Boban in the 1600m race. Hawkspur finished third.

“He was very good; he always looked to be travelling well, but obviously when you are chasing down horses like It’s A Dundeel you can never be too confident,” trainer Chris Waller said after the impressive win.

“It is a nice straight, we gradually wore him down and we won quiet convincingly in the end.

Boban has now won three Group 1s, all of them when partnered with jockey Glyn Schofield.

Today’s win was also trainer Chris Waller’s fourth consecutive Chipping Norton Stakes victory after previously winning with Shoot Out (2012 and 2013) and Danleigh (2011).

Four-year-old Bernardini gelding Boban’s next race will be the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday 5 April before he attempts 2000m for the first time in the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes two weeks later on April 19.
