Winx has been a standout performer through her entire racing career so far, but the mare has continued to work her way towards the moniker of world’s best horse through recent seasons; posting fourteen-consecutive race wins, including nine at the highest level.

Resuming in spring for a typically comfortable triumph in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m), the Street Cry mare posted wins in each of the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Ladbrokes Stakes (2000m) before producing her best performance to date to win the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) by nine lengths.

Having resumed a fortnight ago for a dominant three-length win in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m), Winx is drawn ideally in barrier 4 and will be partnered by regular hoop Hugh Bowman.

Trainer Chris Waller has dominated the 2017 Chipping Norton Stakes field after confirming six of the field’s ten entries; Preferment (barrier 8), Grand Marshal (barrier 5), Who Shot Thebarman (barrier 1), Libran (barrier 3) and Endless Drama (barrier 7).

Hartnell is faced with a big task in claiming his first win over Winx on Saturday after drawing into the Chipping Norton Stakes field in the outside gate, barrier 10.

Hartnell returned to racing in spring for second in the Warwick Stakes, but was dominant when avoiding Winx; taking out each of the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m), Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) with complete ease.

Running second in the Cox Plate before ending his campaign an impressive third in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), the Authorized gelding worked home well for second in the Apollo Stakes first-up and will be ridden by Brenton Avdulla for the first time in the Chipping Norton Stakes.

Godolphin will also launch a multi-pronged attack after trainer John O’Shea also confirmed Magic Hurricane (barrier 2) in the 2017 Chipping Norton Stakes field.

Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have an understandably high opinion of Tavago, who will launch his staying campaign on Saturday after being confirmed in the 2017 Chipping Norton Stakes field.

Tavago (barrier 6) was a strong performer in his native New Zealand in the early stages of his career and immediately announced himself to the Australian racing community with an impressive win in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m).

While failing to come up in the spring, the Tavistock gelding has reportedly taken plenty of benefit from his time away from racing, but will likely require this run to find peak condition.

The Lee Curtis-trained Crown Oaks winner Lasqueti Spirit completes the 2017 Chipping Norton Stakes field and will leave from barrier 9.
